Yoga Sutras, Consciousness & Rene Descartes

This is a small excerpt from one of my Yoga Sutras lectures about the yogic model of mind or Citta.

I share my theory that Descartes method of inquiry was oddly a lot like a style of Yoga called Jnana Yoga, the Yoga of Knowledge.

How can I know anything is real? Can I trust the senses?

Descartes famously concluded that “I think therefore I am.” No matter what, no one can deny that my thinking mind is working.

Patanjali would say to Descartes, “you got so close to the ultimate understanding but you got in the trap of Sutra 4.”
