Yoga Alignment – How a yoga injury became my greatest gift

The greatest gift to me as a teacher was a devastating injury. A little more than two decades ago, I received an adjustment in a yoga pose called Marichiasana D. I couldn’t walk and gave up all hope of any poses that deeply bend the knee like pigeon, lotus or half lotus.

I sought out incredible teachers. I cross-pollinated my yoga with body work, and physical therapy and spent tens of thousands of hours on my mat and in my journals like a mad scientist.

In the process, not only did I learn to heal myself, but I discovered that the way so much yoga is taught needs an up-level.

We need to let go of the need to make the poses look a certain prescribed way and instead customize them according to our unique bodies. We need to let sensations be our guide and to get clear more clear on our intention for every pose.

Have you been injured in yoga? Do you have aches and pains from time to time after a yoga practice? Do you know there is no need for this at all?

Align Your Yoga, Align Your Life Course

This is an excerpt from the opening video of the Align Your Yoga, Align Your Life Course and my upcoming book. The course is also part of our Yoga Teacher Training.

If you really want to take control of your yoga practice and make the poses fit you rather than making you have to fit the pose, this course is for you.

Instead of just fumbling around in yoga asana, you will be empowered to step out of the “one sized fits all world of yoga” and use intelligent Blissology Principles to create poses that feel better than you can imagine.

The practice will become a source of healing and a fountain of youth.
